Adriana Henderson, President, Founder & Board Member, S.T.A.R. Children Relief
Adriana Henderson is a UCLA graduate. She has taught in both public in private schools in California and worked in the travel industry before joining
Hendel International where she served as the company President for 25 years. In 2000 she founded S.T.A.R. Children Relief, a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping Romanian children.
Thomas A. Henderson, Vice President & Board Member, S.T.A.R. Children Relief
Thomas A. Henderson is a Domestic and International Marketing Consultant. Mr. Henderson recently retired as Chairman of Hendel International Inc. He is now doing consulting work for clients in Europe and North America. Prior to his employment with Hendel, Mr. Henderson held executive positions with Celanese Corporation, a major chemical and fiber producer, International Stretch Corporation and served on the Board of several companies.
Laurie Kelley, Board Member, S.T.A.R. Children Relief
Laurie Kelley is the mother of a child with hemophilia, and president of LA Kelley Communications, Inc., a worldwide provider of educational resources and leadership training for the bleeding disorders community. Ms. Kelley holds a Bachelor’s degree in Child Psychology from Regis College, and a Master’s degree in International Economics and Business from the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy. She founded her company in 1990 when she decided to create the world’s first parenting book on hemophilia. She is now the author of ten books, including Raising a Child With Hemophilia and A Guide to Living With von Willebrand Disease. She is also founder and editor-in-chief of the Parent Empowerment Newsletter. She frequently lectures and provides workshops on hemophilia, as well as on leadership and teambuilding. She is the mother of three children, including 20-year-old Tommy, who has hemophilia A. Her company operates Project SHARE, which donates millions of dollars of factor each year. Ms. Kelley is also founder and chair of Save One Life, Inc., a nonprofit child sponsorship agency for children with bleeding disorders in developing countries. She regularly visits countries in Asia, Africa, Latin America and Eastern Europe.
Daniel Goldstein, Board Member, S.T.A.R. Children Relief
Daniel Goldstein serves as our investment and philanthropy advisor. Mr. Goldstein, specializes in investment and philanthropy advising to private families around the world. He has also served as a founding board member of a private Italian family foundation and the No Pain for Children Association, and served on the Board of Dynamo Camp, the Italian affiliated Hole in the Wall Camp. Daniel has worked since 1993 helping families manage their wealth planning, real estate investments, businesses, philanthropy and legacy. Daniel frequently speaks at and Chairs family office, business, investment and philanthropy forums across five continents.
Andrew Clements, Board Member,S.T.A.R. Children Relief
Andrew Clements serves as our Specialist Haemophilia Physiotherapist from Leicester Royal Infirmary UK. Mr. Clements has worked for over 25 years as a physiotherapist. He initially trained and worked in Australia but since 1993 has worked in England as a specialist physiotherapist at the Leicester Royal Infirmary. He has worked with musculoskeletal problems related to haemophilia since 1993 but also works as a specialist within other areas of physiotherapy. Mr. Clements additionally runs his own private practice called Charnwood Physiotherapy and also lectures at several Universities, across several specialties including medicine, audiology and physiotherapy. He has spoken at many meetings and has delivered keynote lectures at national (and international) conferences, as well as teaching many courses. He was a Trustee of the Menieres Society for 7 years and is still a co-opted executive
board member. Mr. Clements has been involved providing specialist physiotherapy input to all 4 of the Camp Ray of Hope projects from 2006 to 2009 in Romania
Diana Geambasu, Board Member, S.T.A.R. Children Relief
Diana Geambasu serves as our legal advisor. Ms. Geambasu received a Jurist Degree from the University of Oradea in 2005 and a Master Degree in European law in 2007 from the same University.
Sorin Jorj, Board Member, S.T.A.R. Children Relief
Sorin Jorj serves as a youth counselor specialist. Ms. Jorj is a Youth Counselor in Romania
Daniel Andrei, Board Member, S.T.A.R. Children Relief
Daniel Andrei is a graduate of Babes-Bolyai University in Cluj-Napoca, Romania. He holds a Master's Degree in Child and Family Welfare, Social Policies and Social Services. Mr. Andrei is licensed in Social Work and Special Psycho Pedagogy with emphasis on children with disabilities. Mr. Andrei is the President of the Romanian Hemophilia Association.
Our Child Advisory Committee:
Lazăr Călin, MD, PhD. Associate Professor at the University of Medicine and Pharmacy Iuliu Hatieganu Department of Pediatrics in Cluj-Napoca, Romania. Dr. Lazar did advanced post graduate courses in the following areas: pediatric hematology, pediatric nephrology, pediatric hepatology, pediatric intensive care, and pediatric rheumatology. Dr. Lazar has seventeen years of experience as a pediatric hematologist. He has published five medical books as first author or co-author and thirty articles as first author. Dr. Lazar published six papers the field of pediatric hematology as author or co-author. He is a founding member of the Romanian Society of Medical Genetics and a member of the European Society of Medical Genetics. He is a member of the Romanian Society of Pediatric Rheumatology and a member of the Romanian Society of Pediatric Hematology. Since May 2006, Dr. Lazar has been engaged in obtaining a 2nd specialty training program in hematology. From February 1997 to the present Dr. Lazar has been the Deputy Medical Director at the Children’s Clinical Hospital of Cluj-Napoca. He has been a member of the Rotary Club of Cluj-Napoca since 1994.
Silvia Dumitras, MD, Ph.D. Pediatrician at St. Maria Children’s Emergency Hospital in Iasi, Romania. From 1996 to 2004 Dr. Dumitras worked at
St. Maria Hospital in Iasi, Department of Psychosocial and Medical Rehabilitation Center for children affected by HIV/AIDS. From 2004 to present
Dr. Dumitras has been working at St. Maria Hospital’s Department of Pediatric Hemato-Oncology in Iasi, which provides medical care to all children with blood disorders and cancer in the Moldova region. Dr. Dumitras has presented her published research at national and international conferences.
Andrada Pârvu, MD, PhD.Clinical Hematologist and psychological counselor for patients with terminal illnesses at the University of Medicine and Pharmacy Iuliu Hatieganu in Cluj-Napoca, Romania. Dr. Parvu has ten years experience as a clinical hematologist and seven years experience as an educator. She organized postgraduate communication skills and psychological counseling training workshops. She has done research in both hematology and in individual & group psychological support for patients with chronic illnesses. Her published research has been presented at both national and international conferences. She has been the physician at Camp Ray of Hope Romania in 2010 and 2011.
